Shakertown KY
The sun is shining nicely on a Saturday, you feel like getting up and getting out of Lexington but don’t want an overnight somewhere or a long drive. Where can you get away for a few hours and spend some time both inside and outside?
Shakertown Kentucky, of course!
Better known as the Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, this historic site offers a chance to learn something about this peaceful religious group while enjoying a walk around the beautiful grounds.
In 1805 a small community of Shakers came to Ky from New England and started the village at Pleasant Hill. Today, the actual community is gone but a non-profit group is keeping the legacy and history alive by maintaining the site. A visit to Shakertown Ky offers a chance to see how people lived in the past, the farm is still active and era-dressed people perform all the daily duties from the 1800′s.
The Shakers are best known for their incredible craftsmanship and arts which can still be purchased today.
Shakertown now offers tours, a riverboat cruise, music performances and demonstrations, a horse-drawn tour, and fine dining.
